JUST THE FACTS. In July, during a test, an AI model made by Anthropic sent a made-up homicide tip to PhillyUnsolvedMurders.com. The tip went to spam. Nobody acted on it. Anthropic found it Sept. 28 and told police in early October. Police called the delay “unacceptable.” Sources: AP; The Philadelphia Inquirer; PhillyVoice (the “unacceptable” quote). Everything after this box is Walt, and the fax machine.
Now listen.
In July, during a test, one of the Artificial Intelligents sent the police a tip. The tip was made up. It went to spam. Nobody read it.
I know how that feels. I spent my working life carrying mail people tossed out unopened. I never took it personal. Most of it was coupons.
The company that makes it is called Anthropic. It found the tip on Sept. 28. Then it told the police in early October. The police called the delay “unacceptable.” I agree. When I ran late on my route, folks heard about it by noon.

Gary from the Rotary Club says his tablet has a spam folder too. He checks it every morning. Gary has a lot of free time and very fast thumbs.
So I faxed the police one line: “This is Walt. I’m real. No tip.” They haven’t written back. I assume it went to spam. Spam used to be a meat.
WALT REVIEWS IT: THE SPAM FOLDER. I have never seen one. Gary showed me his. 4 stars. It does what I did for a living: keeps the junk out of the house.
That’s the way it is. Get off my lawn. — Walt
